Chou Wong Yi Kung Study Hall
Located in Shui Tau Tsuen as well, Chou Wong Yi Kung Study Hall was erected during the reign of Kangxi in the Qing dynasty to commemorate the two officials of Guangdong, Chou Yu-te and Wang Lai-jen, who performed meritorious service for pleading with the Emperor to abolish the coastal evacuation decree. In the early Qing dynasty, the coastal evacuation decree was carried out, so coastal inhabitants needed to migrate to inland for inhabitation, making them destitute and homeless, involving the then Hong Kong people. Later the two officials, Chou and Wang, submitted memorials to the throne to actively state the drawbacks of the coastal evacuation decree, making the Qing court eventually repeal the decree, so to express their gratitude to the two officials, the inhabitants of Kam Tin built Chou Wong Yi Kung Study Hall. Till now, Cheung Chau Bun Festival that is held once every decade in Kam Tin takes place in front of Chou Wong Yi Kung Study Hall.
