Western District (Shek Tong Tsui and Sai Ying Pun)
Barrier-free Index★★★☆☆
Western District, one of the earliest-developed areas in Hong Kong, includes Shek Tong Tsui and Sai Ying Pun. In 1903, land reclamation in Shek Tong Tsui was completed. Later Shek Tong Tsui flourished as a red-light district in Hong Kong. As the earliest residential area and school precinct in Hong Kong, Sai Ying Pun witnessed the history of Hong Kong since its founding. In recent years, many leisure and sightseeing spots suitable for shopping and relaxation with family have been added to the area.

The Westwood
After taking the lift at Exit B2 of the MTR University Station to the ground level, you will see the Westwood if you cross Hill Road, turn left and go straight towards South Lane.
The Westwood is the largest shopping mall in the west of Hong Kong Island. It has five floors. Above the mall is the Belcher's, a residential estate. General daily necessities, supermarkets, restaurants, fast food restaurants and even banks are all available, which will surely meet the shopping needs of nearby residents. The most special thing is that there is a large indoor children's playground. Many parents bring their children to come and play during holidays.

Short comments:
On the lifts in the Westwood, the facilities on each floor are listed, including toilets, and the corridors leading to the toilets are equipped with automatic doors. There are also service counters with a height suitable for wheelchairs. It is quite convenient. Notwithstanding the stone steps at the main entrance on Belcher's Street, wheelchair users can enter from the side entrance next to it using the ramp. However, for an electric wheelchair, the entrance passage is too narrow and the turning position can barely be passed through. The glass door is also too heavy to push open. Alternatively, wheelchair users may choose to enter the mall from another entrance to the Westwood located on South Lane.
Hint:
There is one parking space designated for the disabled in the car park of the Westwood. If you choose to go by bus, you can take Citybus 10 from North Point Ferry Pier to Kennedy Town, and alight at (the Westwood, Belcher's Street Station).

Children's Playground at Central and Western District Promenade
Western Wholesale Food Market Section of Central and Western District Promenade, also known as Children's Playground at Central and Western District Promenade, was originally four idle piers. After revitalization, each pier has a different theme.
Pier No. 1 is the children's playground on the theme of the ocean, and there are a number of amusement facilities for children. Pier No. 2 is a rest space composed of wooden panels for performances and exhibitions of art groups. Pier No. 3 is a lawn with decorative cranes and wooden boxes for visitors to take pictures of. Pier No. 4 is a seaside facility used as a resting and fishing area. Visitors often fish here.

The main sites worth visiting are Pier No. 1 and Pier No. 3.
Hint:
There are many garages along the road from the Westwood to Central and Western District Promenade. The ground is wet and slippery with many hidden slopes. A food kiosk is situated at the entrance of the promenade and accessible toilets are available next to Pier No. 1 and Pier No. 4.
Fung Mat Road Waterfront Open Space
Fung Mat Road Waterfront Open Space, also known as WE Park, opened in August 2019. With a total length of approximately 1,350 metres, it connects Western Wholesale Food Market and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park. The park has been built with reference to the drainage pipe amusement facilities in Shek Lei Estate, Kwai Chung in the 1970s and allows children to climb and play. Next to it, there is Container Art Gallery with different themes so that children can use their creativity to make handicrafts.

Short comments:
If you continue eastward from Pier No. 4, you will enter WE Park. A stone wall near the entrance of the park is covered with graffiti works of different styles and two large three-dimensional pictures are on the ground. As long as you watch them from the specified position, a simulated three-dimensional effect will be produced. Many visitors are attracted to take pictures in interesting poses.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park
Go east along the seashore and you will arrive at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Park. There is a large lawn in the centre of the park and a memorial statue of Sun Yat-sen stands in the middle. Visitors can rest on the lawn. Basketball courts, a soccer pitch, a children's play area, a fitness corner for the elderly and an indoor heated swimming pool are available. Other features of the park include Reflecting Pond Plaza by the sea with cruciform lights, Chime Tower and Four Desperado Courtyard, attracting many visitors to take pictures.

Short comments:
There are many rest spaces in the park. The auxiliary facilities include a sports centre, a swimming pool and ball courts. You can enjoy the view of Victoria Harbour while resting in the park. One toilet for the disabled is available in the swimming pool and another near the soccer pitch in the park, but to reach the toilet near the soccer pitch, one has to take a few turns on the path, which is inconvenient.

Dried Seafood Street
After leaving from the Western Fire Services Street exit of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park, you will arrive at Des Voeux Road West if you cross Connaught Road West Flyover at Fire Services Headquarters. From here is the Dried Seafood Street area.
Most dried seafood shops in Hong Kong are concentrated on Dried Seafood Street. Des Voeux Road West and Bonham Strand West nearby are collectively known as Ginseng, Velvet Antler, Edible Bird's Nest and Dried Seafood Street. It is the largest distribution centre for dried goods such as ginseng, velvet antlers and dried seafood in Hong Kong. There are dried seafood shops along both sides of the road. In addition to the unique aroma of dried seafood, many shops display dried goods such as shark fins to attract tourists, but most of the dried goods displayed are not allowed to be photographed.

Short comments:
The road on Dried Seafood Street is narrow with many hidden slopes. There are often many pedestrians and carts. Wheelchair users need to move forward slowly. In particular, the intersection of Eastern Street is poorly designed. With the absence of traffic lights for pedestrians to pass safely, pedestrians need to wait for the right time and cross the intersection quickly by themselves as cars are constantly driving by, which is very difficult for wheelchair users.

Ki Ling Lane (Mural Street)
After walking west along Dried Seafood Street for approximately 30 minutes, you will see bright murals and a road sign of Ki Ling Lane. Turn left and enter the mural street.
A number of artists from all over the world were invited to Hong Kong to create murals in Ki Ling Lane. The mural streets in the vicinity are collectively called ArtLane. Among them, the most famous ones are "Urban Jungle" and "Rainbow Staircase", which attract many people to take pictures. With Ki Ling Lane Children's Playground as the centre, the nearby side street (namely Shek Chan Lane and Chung Ching Street) area is covered with murals. Being in it is like being surrounded by colours, and you can feel an artistic atmosphere in the busy city.
